PROFILE

Dr. Eric A. Jensen is a senior research fellow at the Institute for Psychological Research at the Sigmund Freud University Berlin and an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Warwick, where he teaches on public engagement with science, audience research and survey research methodology. He is a highly experienced social scientist, internationally recognised evaluator and science communication consultant and scholar with 19 years of professional experience in this field. He has a long-term professional and research interest in STEM engagement research. His experience in delivering research projects involves leadership responsibilities for the development and delivery of survey designs, data collection, and reporting for non-expert stakeholders. He is the author of Doing Real Research: A Practical Guide to Social Research (SAGE). Jensen’s PhD is in sociology from the University of Cambridge.

Eric’s track record includes 13 external grants (including being co-PI on several H2020 SwafS RIAs and CSAs) including strong emphasis on social research and evaluation and projects where he currently leads on survey research, monitoring and evaluation. Dr Jensen also serves as Ethics Mentor and GDPR advisor for European Commission-funded projects, reviewing and advising on data management and ethics planning. Jensen has an extensive publication profile featuring 45+ articles in peer-reviewed journals such as Public Understanding of Science, Nature, PLOS ONE and PNAS, 7 books by publishers such as Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, Routledge and SAGE, with a further 20 chapters in edited volumes with publishers such as Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Springer and Palgrave. Dr Jensen has led, conducted, supported or advised external research of over 100 survey-based research studies with public audiences and numerous influential reports for government and non-profit institutions. For example, these institutions include the UK government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and Department for Environment, Food, & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), Arts Council England (ACE), the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE), Association of Science & Technology Centers (ASTC) and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
